What Are the Costs of scu Online Banking?
Scu online banking is free for all members, with no monthly fees or minimum balance requirements.
The platform includes unlimited online bill payments, Interac e-Transfers, and mobile check deposit at no extra charge. Compared to national banks that typically levy $12–25 per month for similar features, the portal members save up to $300 each year. The only optional costs are a $15 stop-payment fee and a $25 domestic wire transfer fee, both of which are published in our transparent fee schedule. There are no overdraft charges if you enroll in our free low-balance alerts, which help you avoid negative balance situations altogether.
This method does NOT apply to international wire transfers, which require a separate form and a $40 processing fee, nor to business accounts that carry a $10 monthly platform fee. For personal accounts, the zero-fee model is comprehensive and covers all day-to-day banking needs. However, the data does not cover pre-authorized debits from third-party apps, so confirm those before switching. Sample size was limited to a review of our 2023 member survey, which included 1,200 respondents.
How to Set Up scu Online Banking in Minutes
Setting up scu online banking takes less than 10 minutes and requires only your member number and a photo ID.
Begin by visiting the Login page and selecting 'Enroll'. You will need your 10-digit member number and your date of birth. After verifying your identity with a government-issued ID, you create a username and password. The system will prompt you to set up two-factor authentication, which is mandatory. Once complete, you can immediately access your accounts, transfer funds, and pay bills. No branch visit is required for standard enrollment.
Initially we tried a video verification process but found members preferred the simpler ID upload method, so we switched to that in 2021. If you have a joint account, each owner must enroll separately. The official methodology is detailed in the our credit union overview.
Is scu Online Banking Available Across Canada?
Scu online banking is available to members of Chinook Financial and partner credit unions across all provinces and territories.
The platform is optimized for desktop and mobile, and it works on any device with an internet connection. As a member of the Canadian credit union system, you can access scu online banking even when you travel. The service is supported by servers located in Canada, ensuring data sovereignty and compliance with Canadian privacy laws. For Albertans, this is especially convenient because you can also link your Servus Credit Union accounts.
Regional restrictions apply only to certain deposit products; for example, member cards are not available to residents of Quebec due to provincial regulations. This means you can use online banking for everyday transactions everywhere, but some financial products have geographic limits. The data does not cover credit unions outside of the Canadian Payments Association. FCAC provides additional regulatory information.
